Hey Grapeviners!

Anyone else down with a tummy bug? At Casa Grapevine, it was the kids first (naturally), now the adults. Two sick parents + baby + plus 4-year old brimming with “I feel better now” energy, has not made this week’s task easy!

For those willing to stray more than a stones-throw from the bathroom, there’s plenty happening this week… a magic festival, not one but two film festivals, plus a Charlie Chaplin documentary. There are two demonstrations 🪧. (Get involved, or find out how they’ll affect your bus routes. It’s up to you!) There’s a night of comedy in English (we cannot vouch for it being funny).

Finally, Made in Granada Market helps you buy things from local people whilst not sending billionaires into space. Still not feeling wholesome enough? Attend the plant cuttings exchange on Sunday and help propagate hope, happiness and herbs across the city… 🪴

Can you name the Granadino? Answer at the bottom of the email. 👇

🎵 Musical Highlights:
Love hip-hop, but hate autotune? Worry not, this week’s standout rap acts, Carmen Xía and Jaloner have both opted against making it their “thing” - a refreshing break from recent trends. On Friday, Indie/rock fans must choose between Lima Negra and Ángel Stanich Band. The former are sort of local, having recorded their first album “Peligros” in… 🥁 Peligros. Tránsito (Huyendo del Ruido), the new project from Rosario la Tremendita and Dani de Morón, comes from two artists known for pushing flamenco into unexpected terrain, but here, will be revisiting the “purest” form of Flamenco. Ben Sims, James Ruskin & Annē are names that will ring a bell 🔔 (or maybe that’s just tinnitus) for anyone that frequented techno nights many moons ago. Those people might want to visit Industrial Copera and tell the gen-Zs what it was like “back in my day”. That will involve staying up long past midnight, mind…

The stretch, between km 165-175, has been closed since Sept for repairs on the Rules Viaduct. The early reopening is meant to ease traffic during the busy holiday season. However, the road will close again Jan 13 - Feb 27, 2026, for further work.

The chap atop of the newsletter today is Boabdil, also known as Muhammad XII. He was the last Nasrid ruler of the Emirate of Granada and the final Muslim King in the Iberian Peninsula. He surrendered Granada to the Catholic Monarchs in 1492, ending almost 800 years of the kingdom Al-Andalus. He is viewed as both a tragic and conflicted figure, caught between internal family struggles and mounting Christian pressure. According to legend, Boabdil wept while leaving the city, whereupon his mother delivered the famous rebuke: “Weep like a woman for what you could not defend like a man.”
