Hey Grapeviners!
There’s a chill in the air as we get into November, with temperatures set to plummet to 5°C tomorrow night. If you still haven’t taken your duvet out of the armario - now is the time!
This week is all about V.O.S.E. cinema. As well as the Festival Cinemística, the University of Granada’s Masters of Modern Cinema Series is showcasing classic Robert Mulligan movies including To Kill a Mocking Bird (free entry). All this, AND Back to the Future: 40th Anniversary is showing in English at Ocine Serrallo tomorrow!
There’s plenty of theatre for kids this week too, from Alice in Wonderland to a Beckett-inspired play entitled “When’s Samuel Coming?” (Spoiler: he never does.)

Name the famous Granadina. 👇 Answer at the bottom of the email.

⭐️🎶 Musical Highlights: The Jazz Festival concludes this week with three virtuosos; harpist Brandee Younger, singer Jazzmeia Horn and bassist Richard Bona. All three look very promising. An otherwise quiet Monday night is brightened up by Brazilian Psychedelic Rock outfit Glue Trip. Nono García & Tito Alcedo also mix Brazilian influence (among others) into their pleasing gentle Gaditano guitar. Encuentros Soundbox at Caja Fundación brings together three acts that mix humour with modernity, summed up by the name of the night’s local representatives Yo estoy Bien el Mundo está Mal (our chosen translation - “I’m fine, the world is the problem”). Flamenco-lovers should head to Centro Federico Garcia Lorca to catch legendary guitarist and composer, Rafael Riqueni.

🎥 11 Festival Cinemistica

The main venue is La Corrala de Santiago as well as seven other venues across the city. Download program.*
*We haven’t added the screenings to the listings below as there are far too many!

Do you know someone in the city who hasn't heard of Granada Grapevine yet? 😱 Could you do us (and them!) a big favour and press the big red button below and share it!

Mariana de Pineda (1804-1831) was a Granada-born feminist and heroine who was executed at 26 years old for her liberal beliefs. She lived during the absolutist reign of King Ferdinand VII, widely believed to be Spain’s fiercest ruler. During her lifetime, she helped liberals to escape prison, putting herself in danger, and was arrested and finally executed after the authorities found a flag in her home, upon which she had embroidered the words "Igualdad, Libertad y Ley" ("Equality, Freedom and Law").
