First of all, thank you to everyone who came to our festive gathering on Sunday, and thank you to the lovely Geometric Art Studio for offering us a heated space for the event! (Several people pointed out that only crazy Brits would propose a picnic at the park in December!)
If you missed the taste of our mince pies and are lacking that Christmas feel, don’t worry, Granada offers loads of festive events this week, from all day Zambombas, to Christmas craft workshops, story-tellings and don’t forget the annual fancy-dress night run on Friday! 🏃🏽🧑🎄
Before we dive into this week’s events… a quick heart-to-heart. ❤️2️⃣❤️ We’ve been on this journey together for a while now - we’ve laughed, we’ve learnt, we’ve lolled about how late some of the events in Granada are advertised… But before things get too serious, we want to make sure we both feel the same way. 🎵 Musical Highlights:
This week’s highlights are dominated by home-grown talent. Long-established legends of the local scene, Eskorzo dabble in just about every genre going, and do so with style. Promising feel-good indie act Nievla present their new album Miradas, a varied listen with several catchy numbers. Juan Habichuela Nieto, one of Granada’s biggest Flamenco names, definitely knows his way around a guitar. Underwave Festival brings together a bunch of up-and-coming local acts. Dave’s Fave™ this week is Sunday night’s Jam Electroacústico, which sets out to be everything every other jam isn’t. Drum machines, synths, sequencers and loopers are all welcome; standards are not. Earlier that day, Luis Arias & Gala Kossakowski provide another interesting modern classical two-piece lunchtime recital at Auditorio Manuel de Falla. And lastly, a man with a very strong claim to fame… As if playing with Paco de Lucia, Cameron de la Isla and Chick Corea (to name but a few) weren’t boastworthy enough, Brazilian percussionist Rubem Dantas is credited as the first person to bring the cajón to Flamenco!

🚌 Local News/Transport:
🎄 Over the Christmas period on Fridays and Saturday between 17h and 21h (from 28 Nov - 4 Jan), there will be road closures and changes to bus routes in the centre.
🕯️ The Procession of Luz de Belén on Fri 19 Dec will affect movement around the city from 18h onwards.
🏃🏽 The Carrera Nocturna y de Disfraces 2025 on Fri 19 Dec will lead to traffic diversions (including public transport) in the area around Palacio de Congresos.
🚊 The metro service will be extended over much of the Christmas period to allow people to enjoy the festive fun in the city.

Carlos Cano (1946–2000) was a prominent Andalusian singer-songwriter, poet, and cultural figure from Granada. He played a crucial role in rescuing and dignifying traditional Andalusian genres such as copla, trovo, and canción popular, combining them with strong social, political, and lyrical content. Emerging during Spain’s late Franco era and the transition to democracy, his work often addressed themes of Andalusian identity, historical memory, social justice, and exile. He died on 19 December 2000.
