Norma by Vincenzo Bellini is a tragedia lirica in two acts and one of the supreme examples of bel canto opera. The LGAM opera company brings this production to Teatro Municipal Isabel la Catolica on 8 March 2026 at 19:00. The plot unfolds around 50 BC in Gaul (ancient France) during the Roman occupation, a period of conflict between the druids and the Romans. At its heart is a drama of forbidden love, jealousy and vengeance. Norma is renowned for the aria Casta Diva, an invocation to the moon and one of the most technically demanding pieces in the lyric repertoire. Very few sopranos have been able to sing it at the level required, with Maria Callas standing above all others - it was one of her most iconic roles.
