Italian pianist Giulio Zappa performs a recital at the Auditorio Caja Rural as part of Granada's Temporada Lirica en Granada, a season of opera and lyric music running from October 2025 to May 2026 across the city's premier venues.
Born in Monza in 1971, Zappa studied piano under Oleg Marshev, graduating with the highest distinction from the Conservatory of Novara. He also holds a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the State University of Milan, with a thesis on Russian opera.
A specialist in the bel canto repertoire, Zappa has been senior vocal coach at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro since 2002. He has taught and coached singers at institutions including the Accademia del Maggio Fiorentino, Teatro Real in Madrid, Glyndebourne, the Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Opera Program, and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. From 2013 to 2021 he served as artistic director of the Opera (e)Studio young artist programme at Opera de Tenerife, and since 2022 he has been Artistic Secretary of the Donizetti Opera festival in Bergamo.
The Temporada Lirica season also features performances of Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, and the Spanish zarzuela Katiuska.
