Description
Translated from the organiser's original listing
Part of the 'Pioneras y maestras (IV): Josefina Molina' cycle celebrating the director's 90th birthday, this screening presents the first two chapters of the acclaimed 1983 Spanish-language television series Teresa de Jesus, directed by Josefina Molina and starring Concha Velasco. Chapter 1 ('Camino de perfeccion') and Chapter 2 ('Cuentas de conciencia') trace the early life of the 16th-century mystic and writer Teresa de Avila. 117 minutes. Speaking about the series, Molina reflected: "When I was commissioned to make Teresa de Jesus, I knew no more about the life of Saint Teresa than any student who had read Las moradas. Afterwards, a great horizon opened up. I can now say she is an enormously important reference for all women of the 21st century. We could say, without wishing to provoke debate, that she was one of the first feminists in history - with the difference that she made her case from within the system itself." Organised by Cineclub Universitario UGR / Aula de Cine 'Eugenio Martin'. Free entry until full.
