About This Event

A theatrical retelling of a classic Japanese ghost story "The Story of Oiwa and Iemon" plus a concert of Japanese songs with audience participation.

Description

Translated from the organiser's original listing

This theatrical production brings to life the story of Oiwa and Iemon, one of Japan's most famous ghost tales, combining dramatic performance with a concert of Japanese songs featuring audience participation. Yumi Sakurada, who wrote and directs the piece, performs as both narrator and Oiwa, while tenor Tsutomu Ono takes the role of Tamiya Iemon. Sakurada trained in Spain from 1992 to 1997, specialising in Spanish songs, opera and zarzuela, and founded the Zarzuela Association in Japan in 2001. Ono is a prize-winning tenor who performs with leading Japanese orchestras including the Tokyo Philharmonic. The evening also includes a concert of Japanese songs with audience participation. Organised by the Seminario de Estudios Asiáticos. Free entry, subject to capacity.
