About This Exhibition

Exhibition exploring the evolution of urban greenery in Granada.

Description

"Jardines Posibles" (Possible Gardens) is a cultural project that revalues Granada's landscape heritage through the Municipal Archive's collections, forming part of the annual exhibition programme established after one of its rooms was adapted as a permanent exhibition space. Visiting hours: Daily including public holidays, 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 6pm. Granada's Culture Councillor, Juan Ramon Ferreira, stated: "This exhibition represents a firm step towards the idea of culture we champion: accessible, documented, and capable of making the city's emotional history visible. Granada can also be read through its gardens, its squares and the way citizens have inhabited its green spaces; recovering and sharing them means reinforcing our identity." The exhibition, organised by the Municipal Archive in collaboration with botanical conservator Jose Titos Rojo and architect Fernando Acale Sanchez, forms part of a broader exhibition cycle around gardens also promoted by institutions such as the Alhambra Trust, the Andalusian Public Foundation "El legado andalusi" and the Casa de los Tiros museum, coinciding with the centenary of the unification of the management of the Alhambra and Generalife. "Possible Gardens" brings together projects, sketches, drawings and original plans that reveal the evolution of parks and gardens in the city. The journey is completed with historic photographs and original files showing how Granada's green spaces have been conceived and transformed. One of the most notable elements is the integration of a virtual exhibition, accessible via QR code, which allows viewing and downloading the full digitised documents. The Municipal Archive notes that all available digital material can be consulted on its website. This ongoing digitisation effort ensures the preservation of originals and facilitates public access to unique documentary pieces. The exhibition project was created entirely with the resources and staff of the Municipal Archive, with support from the City Council's IT Service for web development and collaboration from the Cultural Heritage Section for artistic installation and preventive conservation of the documents.
